I don't think of Jazz Basses as "ugly" at all.

Here's a '66 clone I put together last year......

Image

MIM '60s body, Allparts rosewood tuxedo neck, CS '62 pickups, Fender/Schaller tuners converted to "paddle" configuration, vintage-style chrome covers and tugbar, and all US hardware. Plays great, sounds "woody" and "thumpy" -- like a good Jazz Bass should.

Amazing the way you have put this beauty together. I wish I had the skills.

'97 CIJ FL w/ new PG, Dimarzio jazz replacement P/Us, P/U and bridge covers and Audere JZ3 preamp. Growls, snarls and thumps.

This one shows the hardware a bit better (I need to get my polish cloth out!):

This is my Sage Green Metallic MIM Jazz Fretless. I've added a Badass II bridge, a Hipshot X-tender, Schaller strap locks and a black pearloid pickguard.

Who cares what they say? I used to deal with the same thing, showing up to Hardcore gigs with my Fender, while everyone had their Ibanez. I too had Ibbies, but now down to 3 Fenders. It's how you play, not what you play. Plus a decent amp helps ;)
