Hey,
I just bought my dream bass, an American Deluxe Jazz 5. The stock strings on it were going dead so I replaced them just a little bit ago and my low B isn't as loud as it was before. Any idea as to why my old B which was taper-wound was pretty loud and my new B which isn't taper-wound isn't as loud, My E isn't as loud as the old one either........Please help me....What do I need to do?.....

I too have a 2010 brand new model American deluxe jazz V but have not yet changed the strings and I have an exact Fender replacement set for that so I wont know any change for a while but after playing bass since 1973 I can safely say there is some variation with strings and the volume and tone both acoustically and it seems electrically can be different between sets. whats important is how the metal type in the strings react with the magnetic field of the pickups. Alloys of strings do differ. A acoustic bronze alloy set wont work well on a electric at all for example. Turn up your bass knob. I run my bass full treble full middle in the middle and get a FAT but bright when needed sound. Others may have more insight on this topic.

If you replaced tapered strings with non-taper strings without resetting the action, you've basically moved the string (e & b) away from the pickup which will make them softer in volume. I have an am dlx 5 and I recommend sticking with the taper wounds. I use DRs myself but the stock Fender sets are good, too.
