When I lifted the case open there was a blinding white light and I could hear choir angels singing........... wait a sec....sorry I remember why I'm here............ Lets get the Nut measured first. The "Nut itself is 47mm wide but string outside to string outside is about 41.5-42mm depending on gauge of strings SO the advertised Fender dimensions are based on the outside of B string to outside of G string. A New standard of measuring?
72mm neck width at the 21st fret and string width at Bridge saddles are about 74mm outside to outside of B & G strings. The wood match on my sunburst is so good that on the front you can't see a join even when you know where it is because it is lightly visible on the back. Mine is about where the lower cutout starts below the neck cutout. Invisible. That sold me oh and it sounds great with a reasonable drop from active to passive with a slight change in presence I'll call it but both active and passive sounded quiet as a mouse in the SVT rig they so graciously let me try it through. (A Johnson or Profile woulda sounded PRETTY good there tho) I will be playing it Live tomorrow night with my Laney stack (4x10"s 1x15") and Friday so you will all get a report. The block inlays and binding on the neck look perfect. After a lineup of basses that include a 50's no name bass a Gibson 70's SG Bass, a Aria Pro 2, a BC Rich Mockingbird, a 69 Precision, a Vantage bass of some kind, A Fender (Small squire logo) Bullet Bass, a Epiphone SG bass, A 96 Fender Precision American, a 2001 Mexican Precision, A Stagg Music Man 5 string Clone, 2 SX basses both 5 strings and a Cort Acoustic bass this American Deluxe Jazz V is very fine indeed and this particular bass was born if you will the 3rd of February. The Case is deluxe and the latches although plastic are elephantine in description....

any other questions that don't need me to form an opinion (Like how does it sound? it sounds great and has a lot of tonal adjustment) will be welcome. Names Dennis Fox and its HNBD!! $1750 before taxes here in Canada eh?

I've noticed the stealth "strong arm" bar holding the tight B string. Very nice feature!

Case candy includes strap locks, T wrench for truss rod very nice tool, Tiny allen wrench for saddle height screws, Fender bumper sticker, VERY NICE STRAP, keys and all the paperwork you'd expect. Date of manufacture inspection tag included. I did some more testing and the active tone controls are very effective and nicely enough if the controls are at center detente position there is little difference between active and passive volume. Its when your boosting the 3 band EQ you get much more volume active and tonal variety.

So in inches what does that translate to at the nut width, is that 1.65" or 1.75"?

1.625" as advertised at Fender string to string not actual nut material or fingerboard. String to string 1.625" With 2 rulers with standard and metric measurements I double checked but if your in the USA you may not have a metric measuring device.......

IT LOOKS AS IF FENDER is using 2 methods of advertising nut width. The old way actual fingerboard width @nut and NOW string to string width @nut area.

I want Your bass Music fox! haha how does it feel and sound? Is it cleaner soundin than other fender jazzes? Do you notice a difference with the compund radius fretboard? I just want something that is comfortable to play that has 5 strings. I have two Warwick 5 string models and they are just too long in the neck especially when standing, i get tired of suffering playing the damn thing, i got hooked on fender when i played a "geddy lee" bass two weeks ago, i thought it was way more easy on the hands and i could play better but not just cuz it had 4 strings... fenders seem to have a better positioning for the neck and doesent seem like it extends out like a warwick does... just wonderin how ur bass feels cuz im really interested in the new model.

Im interested in this color choice and fingerboard.

You cant go wrong with the black.. or the natural finish.. specially with the maple fingerboard. I wish they had more colors though.

I love the neck! I had been playing 2 different SX basses 5vers for a while on a cheap run. After owning 3 other Fender P basses before when drummer buddy said "I'll buy you the bass of your dreams" I went with the 2010 Am Del jazz V in a heartbeat. Now if I could only get bridge and pickup covers (Ashtrays) for 5 strings ( I know there's a 5er neck PU cover available but no bridge cover wide enough.)

You all should be kind to your drummer..... :D :D :D
