If it is a fake then it is very well made. But if the serial number doesnt match up then ask if he can send you pictures of the slip that says it is a genuine fender. If he doesnt have those, i'd stay away.

According to the serial the date matches up (E9+5 digits = '89) though the guitar dater project doesn't recognise it. Mind you I wouldn't trust that site completely.

To me, at any rate, the guitar looks right and of its time as far as I can see. The Hole pattern doesn't look odd to me either (there have been many, many different hole patterns over the years). The Decal looks orig and to be honest the only thing that doesn't look orignal is the BAII bridge (cause it aint! Lol.)

Obviously if you could quiz the owner a bit more (when/where he bought it, does he have the certificate or any sorta documentation and such like...) but if it is a fake, it looks bloody impressive!

It certainly looks real. Real or not, it's a nice looking instrument.

The question is, does it play well?

With any used instrument (or car as well), it's about who has screwed with it before. There are many "real" basses out there that aren't very playable due to the previous owner.

Having owned many Fenders I would say it is real.

the rust on the pup won't affect the sound at all. If you want to get rid of it just rub some steel wool over it and that should get rid of the rust.

It's a real Fender--I used to have one in Frost Red.

22 frets + 1989 sn + shortened lower horn = Fender Longhorn Model. This is the real deal. Often commonly referred to as "boner" bass or "bananna" bass. Good luck if you need a 22 fret replacement neck, you will be on your own. Moses Graphite's are the only ones I can find for a replacement, but I've read reviews of their work falling short in the quality dept.

Hi Guys:

I dug out my 1990 Fender catolog, It is real, they offered 22 fret jazz and p-basses of that era, the body is slightly different that the 20 fret necked bodies
