Hello all.

I am new here and I have a question about my guitar.

It is a 1982 Jazz Bass, special edition in gold, with a maple neck, golden hardware and a heavy bridge.
The serial # is CB 11109.
Does anybody know how many of this basses were build?
And how many of this were sold in Germany, where I live?

I have never heard, that somebody else has a golden JBass. So I am very interested to know something about my instrument.

Thanks for any reply.

Unfortunately, I don't know how many gold Jazz basses were built in the special edition of 1982, but I remember the basses.

Most were heavy ash bodies and it was one of the first modern Jazz basses to revert back to dots on the finger board.

The other distinguishing characteristic is the white pickup covers. Fender went to white covers for all basses in 1983. That was the first and last year that they featured white plastic pickup covers.

My theory is that Fender has just tooled up for the Vintage reissue 1962 Jazz bass and they just decided to run some maple necks through the neck machine so they had dots instead of blocks.

BTW: The hardest thing to find intact of one of these basses is the gold plated finger rest or tugbar. Mosr of them were taken off of these basses and the Precision Specials that were done in gold. If you have one with your bass, don't lose it.

I'm sure that you have a real nice bass.

White bass pickups covers officially debuted in 1980 and not in 1983. The white pickup trend started with the introduction of the Precision Bass Special and the "Dan Smith" Standard P-Bass.

And yes, Jazz Bass pickups with white covers were made for a short period in 1982/1983. This particular period was also marked by the plain pickguard/control plate introduced on certain models. After CBS sold Fender to Bill Schultz in 1985, these late CBS-era instruments disappeared from the Fender catalogue.

DiMarzio makes faithful reproductions of white Fender bass pickups.

AFAIK the Precision Special was a 1982-83 model so white cover may have debuted with that model but no other Fender basses were given white covers until 82-83 timeframe. The gold Jazz bass was special model like the Precision Special.

I will venture to say that the one peice pickguard was only used on the American Standard Jazz bass for 1983. I remember them and I own one.

The Elite series was considered the top line of Fender basses at that time and they were all Precision basses with different shaped white pickups.
Either one or two pickups per Elite Precision bass.

I don't remember any Elite Jazz basses but someone may know if Fender ever made an Elite Jazz.

There wasn't a Jazz Bass in the Elite Series. Only Strats, Teles and Precision Basses.

The Precision Elite II and I utilized a very unusual heavy mass bridge with fine tuners made by Schaller. It's actually the same bridge used on the Boner P-Bass (pictured below), the Precision Plus Deluxe and the Jazz Bass Plus IV when the Plus series hit the scene in the mid-to-late 1980s/early-to-mid 1990s.
