I totally agree that if Fender claims to have noiseless pickups, then there should not be any noise.

I just disassemble my bass. There is no aluminum foil in cavities and pickupguard. In order to be shielded, it should have, right?

Yes, or shielding paint.

"Foil"?... No. Copper Tape or Shielding Paint is also used. Both would be easy to detect if visible.

I don't own an American Deluxe Jazz, but I have some American Standard Strats and they use shielding paint in the cavities which, in turn, are painted over in the same color as the rest of the bodies.

Fender is facing with numerous problems since many of their suppliers were out of business.

No surprise. Fender appears to have bigger problems than their suppliers going out of business. I had to send 2 of 2 NEW 2010 American Deluxe 5 String Basses back to American Music Supply because it appears Fender is sending them sloppy seconds. Both basses had unacceptable issues. Fortunately, I was able to locate 2 keepers.

I've seen a couple of Youtube videos showing the current American Deluxe Jazz Bass in action. Apparrently only a few customers were satisfied with the new basses.

I didn't like the new Deluxes because many of the features are missing. Fender should bring back the older Deluxe designs (22 frets, abalone dot inlay, downsized body/pickguard) and keep the essential features of the current series (N3 noiseless pickups, active/passive switch, strong arm retainer bar, compound neck radius, HMV bridge, Fender/Hipshot vintage tuners, new battery compartment).

Hi, I'd like to add to this thread. I've just bought a Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass 2010. It looks great but also has terible ground noise problems. I am going to have to take it back to the dealer which is not cool as it is going to mean multiple trips - days off work, expense etc etc. It's a real shame that fender don't address this issue. The dealer's immediate reaction was to state that 'they are all like this' and to suggest extensive copper shielding - spending so much money on a top of the line bass shouldn't require this amount of work. My Sadowskys have never suffered from this kind of problem and I can't understanbd why Fender don't address this.

Hi again, Just a short update on the ground noise issue. I have put aluminium foil into the control cavity - it's not a log term solution i think as copper foil would be better. However, fshielding the control cavity hardly made a difference to the noise I was getting. In the end I had to take out both pickups and put shielding in both pickup cabities. The bridge pickup was especialyl noisy. I phoned Fender and they said that the bass should eb returned and they knew 'a trick' that was to intstall shielding to get around this problem - I asked why this wasn't done as standard and didn't get an answer. If Ihad more time I would have sent the bass back but this would have meant a 100 mile trip x 2 and I also had a practice and gig to deal with as well. The obvious solutionis for Fender to shield their basses properly in the first place and I'm at a loss to know why they don't (cost cutting rather than quality I guess).

Got my 2010 American Deluxe Jazz V in December 2010 ... And I LOVE IT ... It has a little noise but nothing to worry about - in fact I don't even notice it when I play...

WELL... love it so much that I decided to get one more..

Got the second one today...It is actually a 2011 model not that I see any difference..

But holy smokes it is noisy.. Grounding with my thumb on the B string is not enough to remove the noise..

I'm taking this 2011 model back to the dealer tomorrow and ask them to get it fixed.

It seems to me that the number of noise reports on the Internet is a little too high for this problem to be isolated to "a few defective units", however it is clear to me that the extend vary quite a bit from bass to bass..

BUT IMO this should not cause anyone to write off this wonderful bass.. For sure mine are keepers.
