Has anyone tried the new 2010 American Deluxe 5 string bass?
They look great on the web site. Are there any reviews in Bass Player or other publications?

The current US Deluxe Series is a totally different design.

The older Deluxes were too futuristic and sounded absolutely sterile like a MIDI synth. They also lacked of a bypass switch.

The new models looked very "vintage" with their traditional body shapes and '70s-era cosmetics. Fender should place the rear-position N3 pickup a bit closer to the bridge and add a thumbrest with ashtray covers for the bridge and the neck pickup to complete the CBS look.

Perhaps they'll add the missing 22nd fret at a later time.

N3s are supposed to emulate the '70s Jazz Bass sound with no hum. These babies are a nice improvement over the previous noiseless pickup designs, although they aren't 100% perfect.

Are there any alternative pickups that are completely noise free?

Bartolinis, Nordstrands, Basslines, Fender VNs, Bill Lawrence SCNs, Lace Sensors, DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, Suhr Humphreys and EMGs are in that category.

Beware, noise free pickups mean also sterility. If you want vintage Fender tone without the noise, the N3s are the right solution for you.

I just got my bass today. Right out of the box it played very well. I was totally surprised. I took it over to my repair person for a set up because I want to use different strings. We plugged the bass into an amp and there is some noise. I don't know if it is the pickups or the preamp. Also, we discovered that there is no shielding. That is disappointing because I love the way it plays. Having to spend more money to shield the bass and possibly new pickups/electronics is not cool for a bass in that price range. I hope that Fender is listening!!!

I am definitely getting noise. When I take my hands off of the strings there is ground noise. Also, when the pre amp is engaged there is noise. The bass plays very well. I just need to get the noise thing sorted out. I wrote Fender Consumer Relations and they said take it to an authorized Fender repair shop. A new bass like this should not have these kind of issues. Others here on this forum have the same thing happening with there bass. Come on Fender, make your so called noiseless pickups/electronics truly noiseless. I know for a fact that the lack of proper shielding has a lot to do with it. Other bass manufacturers pay more attention to making sure there instruments are shielded. We will see how this is resolved. I want to be a Fender Jazz Bass fan again. My first real bass forty years ago was a Fender. I am trying to come back home Fender!!!

You've probably got a defective model. Your bass is under warranty.

All USA Deluxe guitars and basses are fully shielded.

I suggest you to send your bass ASAP to your local Fender authorized dealer.

I have many other basses that have conductive shielding paint. No hum or RF noise in any of my other basses. There is no conductive shielding paint or copper foil on my 2010 American Deluxe 5 String Jazz. Do you have conductive shielding paint on your Fender basses? I just think it is not a part of there production basses. Again, for $1700.00 this bass should not have noise issues.
I do love the way that it plays :D

My brother's Precision Lyte Deluxe is shielded and has no noise issues. The only minor cosmetic flaw is a missing screw on the bridge humbucker. Overall, the bass is 100% perfect and plays like a dream.

I do not own Fender basses in my arsenal. I use an Epi Korina Explorer Bass with humbuckers and a Washburn AB-10 acoustic bass.

Our basses are strung with lightgauge Fender Stainless Flats (45-95).

The current and the previous US Deluxe basses are fully shielded with copper foil. Musicfox's Deluxe Jazz Bass V doesn't have those issues. I'm pretty certain you've probably bought a defective bass.

Contact your local Fender dealer. Your bass is under warranty and should be returned to the Corona factory for reinspection.

If you do not own this bass how can you comment on the shielding? I am not the only one that has this issue. There are others on this forum that have stated the same problem.

I've had a little experience with the previous US Deluxes, dear. Therefore I'm unable to help you further. You must ask a Fender representative about your problem, I'm certain (s)he can answer to your question.

Used my new American Deluxe Jazz V all night at a Jam session (BC Songwriter artist Valdy was there) and it was noiseless completely. There must be a problem with the noisy ones other than shielding I don't know if mine made Feb 3rd has shielding.
