That's what those basses go for these days? I remember them being priced for around $920, but that was back in 1994, or thereabouts, which was now 24 years ago. Then again, you could get a MIM Fender for what you pay for a Squier now, too. Inflation, I guess.

Yep. $1,949.99 actually, plus tax. That's a pretty hefty jump, even with inflation. I guess you can say the same thing for Fender's American Jazzes, and Precisions as well.

Imagine that I paid $450 for the 1977 Jazz I started out with, and it was in practically new condition, maybe almost mint, with the covers on it. That was in probably 1989, so I probably should factor that in, with inflation and all of that. I remember it took me a bit to pay it off on layaway at the music shop, though.

The MIA did a good jump in price also. The Am. Pro. Jazz I have cost $1,549., $400. less than the 4003. That's only $50. less than the USA GL Jazz is. Next to those two, the Mustang PJ is almost $1,000. dollars less.

Yeah, and they jacked the price up on the Mustang, apparently because of the fretboard, I suppose.

$25.00 For the Rosewood. And they kept the price up even though they aren't Rosewood any more. They're Pau Ferro. $25.00 Isn't a lot but it's the jab for a few more bucks. Maple boards stayed at their price. My Am. Pro. is $50.00 jacked up because of the Rosewood board on it.

Oddly enough, or as far as I know, they never messed with the prices on the Squiers with the rosewood boards on them. Maybe because that's the "budget brand," I don't know. Come to think of it, I'd say the majority of Squier models, especially the bass ones, have rosewood boards on them. That seem to be common with cheaper instruments for some reason, on a lot of brands.

Rosewood was always one of the easiest woods for boards, and easier on the price to harvest. This is all a government trumped up BS anyway.

I guess it has to do with some sort of environmental thing with the wood becoming scarce, but I'm sure politics has most to do with it.

They harvest from one area, then move to another. Mean while the original harvested area grows back. Rosewood is found in more areas that aren't in the now protected area.

I suppose if you could use political red tape as a fretboard material, that would be in over abundance. :P

At least it would cut down on the red tape. And the green, orange, blue, yellow.

It works good if you need to tape the fretboard to do any fret filing. That would be nice if I never didn't, because it is a pain in the arse, but that's what happens in cold, dry weather, I suppose. That, and I'm sure the fret jobs aren't the top of the line service with these models.
