To be honest, if I could swap out everything I have, sans the violin bass, to get one of those, I'd really seriously consider it. Simply because of the short scale neck, which is more compatible with playing on the violin bass, which I'm now used to. I mean I can play everything I have, but I think it would simplify things a lot better, at least where I'm at now.

Short scales can spoil the the works. I myself do like the feel of the Mustang PJ over the SG Std. It just feels more comfortable to play.

How close is the neck to the Jazz on it, besides being short scale? They have about the same feel?

Yeah Paul, other than it's a short scale, the nut is the same, and the board's radius is the same. The neck's are similar as well. The Mustang PJ has a "C" neck, and the Am. Pro. Jazz has a "Slim C" neck. So they do feel close to the same when the lengths are factored in. 30 - 34 inches.

That sounds pretty good, actually. The Jazz neck I'm really familiar with because of the Squier, which I'm sure has the same specs as the Fender version, just made in a different country. They don't seem to deviate too much with the specs on their Jazz models, unless you go with the vintage ones that have the old fretboard radius measurements, and even those probably have the same nut width.

You're probably right about the specs on Jazzes etc. Squier / Fender.

It does look like it, from what I've read, at least.

The USA Geddy Lee Jazz Is one of the configuration differences. The Custom Thick C neck is on USA GL. All "C" shaped necks, just different variations of the "C" neck.

Weren't you saying the neck on the Geddy Lee had a similar feel to a Rickenbacker?

Yes, to me it feels similar to the flatter Rick neck. Just a slight flat sanded crown of the neck.

I'll bet that's a specification made by Geddy Lee. He did play on a Ric for many years.

I would have to believe so too. The Ric neck's do have a decent feel to them.

Yeah, I guess the main issue people get with Rics is getting around the horseshoe pickup thing, if you're used to putting your hand in that spot when you play.

I guess lucky for me, when I play a 4003, I anchor my thumb on the neck pup. The Ric is about the only bass I play with my thumb anchored on a pup, and not the E string bottom corner of the neck.

If I had one, I'd leave the horseshoe thing in place, since that is intended to be part of the sound of the pickup, or so they said. I'd just adjust accordingly.
