That happened to me in the early 80s.
I did a brief stint as a bassist in a country band.
I had a low end Traynor amp, forget the model but it was a solid state amp.
The salesman at the store sold me on the idea because it would never break down cuz there weren't any tubes.
Another broken promise.
Amp crapped out on stage mid-song.
Played the rest of the set into the board without an adequate personal monitor.
Burned out power amp transistor.
Replaced it and a month later the other one went, thankfully not on stage.
After two repair bills I unloaded it.

No, the bigger stuff usually held together better. It wasn't unusual to rotate amps out. Most of the time, there were no back up amps. The best thing was to rotate them so they didn't just sit. Sometimes that can cause more problems not being run.

I've only had one amp crap out on me, which was a transformer frying out on me with an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro head back in the mid 90's. That was an expensive fix. I should have just held on to my Peavey Databass combo and not getting rid of that to get some Fender BXR300C combo, which sounded better, but wound up being weak, which in turn led me to get the Ampeg, which also was kind of anemic. The Peavey might not have had the best tone out of the bunch, but it was loud and it worked.

Other than the Bassman 500 head having the start up issue, MARSHALL MB series were the closest thing to a trash can.

Looks good. 8) I remember that Bassman 500 you had. It didn't last too long, did it?

No, the Bassman 500 had a problem. I didn't trust anymore from that batch that were out at the time to mess with another one. I had nightmares of Marshall's in my head.

I like this particular tort PG. I have one other I like, if I decide to mount it on the Am. Std. Jazz.

Yeah, I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with that amp situation, especially since you did have to deal with that with those Marshall amps. It's kind of like me not wanting to order anything else from Carvin, not that I'd need anything from them. If I somehow fried a speaker, I'd certainly replace it with a Celestion. They sound a hell of a lot better, to me, at least.

I'd love to hear about your Carvin experience, Paul.
I have only very little experience with their products and most Carvin owners I've seen only say little about them other than they're great.

Well, I ordered a 2 x 10" bass cab from them, and it really wasn't the cab that was the problem, but the customer service trying to order the thing was totally screwed up. It took over a month to get it and it almost shipped to someone in another state, besides a bunch of other screw ups. Basically, they had their heads up their arses. I already had another Carvin 18" bass cab, which I loaded with an 8 ohm Celestion (it originally was 4 ohms,) so I figured I'd get one of their 2 x 10" cabs to go on top of it to match that one, and give me a bit more high end definition. I will say, if I can ever get the funds, I'd like to swap out the 10"s with some Celestions, so I have them with both cabs. It's not that the Carvin speakers are terrible, it's just a preference to those.

Celestion are good speakers. You know if they make a good 18", their 10's have to be good as well.

They have a new series of bass speakers in the 10", 12", and 15" sizes that have pretty good specs to them. This is the info for the 10" version: http://celestion.com/product/156/pulse10/

Someday, I hope to be able to do that, but it's not like it's a major priority, as far as gear goes. It also depends on what the cost will be to get those. I'll have to buy two of them. Another thing, I'll have to figure out how to wire them correctly, since they are 8 ohm speakers, and two together will make 4 ohms, which would be a no-no with my rig. I know there's the whole series/parallel thing of wiring that I'd have to read up on. I'm not sure if the stock speakers are 16 ohms or 8 ohms, which would dictate how they're wired. Hopefully, they're labelled what they are and if they are 8 ohms, then I can just follow how they are wired up. If not, then I'll have to do it the other way. I've only ever replaced single speakers like a 15" or now 18", so I've never messed with that before.

It's been a long time since I messed with a 2X cab. I don't remember what the ohms were on the 12" Jensen Concert Vibranto's I used in my cab.
