That was a cool looking bass. Didn't they have a limited edition model with the matching headstock with that color, or some other one? I remember you had one of those when they came out.

That was the Spl. Edition White Opal Jazz. It had the White Opal finish, matching head, the Pearloid PG, and a Rosewood board. Everything else was the same. I like the Maple board , the Arctic White body, and the Parchment PG more than the Spl Jazz. Same price too.

OK, that's what that was, then. They also had a Tele and Strat (I think) with the same finish.

The Opal was nice, but I really prefer a Maple board when possible. Just me.

I've heard maple can have a brighter tone, but it's been so many years since I've owned or played a bass with a maple board that I even remember that sort of thing. I do like the way they look, though. I'm thinking if I do get another Jazz, it will be maple, since I already have a Jazz with rosewood board, so I can have a variation there. It's not set in stone, though.

That's been a hot, and cold issue for a long time, about the sound differences between the Maple, and Rosewood boards. I go Maple when I can.

Now it seems like it's a cheaper option, at least where the Fenders are concerned. So far, they haven't jacked the prices of the Squiers up with the rosewood boards. Although, they raised the prices on them in the past couple of years now, anyhow. My Tele costs $100 more than it did when I originally bought it.

Yeah, although they don't have the models out like they did a couple of years ago. They dropped a lot of stuff, unfortunately. Maybe it wasn't selling, who knows?

You summed it up with, "who knows?"

I understand why you want to change out the pick guard. I'm not that keen with a white pick guard on sunburst, either.

I do know what you mean about the Mint Green PG on the 3-Color Sunburst. I'm not even liking the Olympic White Jazz with a Mint Green PG. By the same token, I wouldn't like the Parchment, or the regular White PG's on a 3-Color Sunburst either. A nice darker Tort like the Am. Std.'s came with, or a darker pattern / color is my preference. At least the Jazz is only about a five minute job to change out the PG. Easier than a Precision is for a PG change out.

Yeah, it's just a personal preference, but I do prefer the darker pick guards, like black or tortoise shell for sunburst or black finishes. Although, I wouldn't mind the white on a red or blue finish like they have. My favorite is the tortoise shell. I guess because it reminds me of those 60's custom models that usually had matching color head stocks. They usually also had the tortoise shell pick guards installed.

I like darker brown Torts, with less gold specs in them, and not a red tint.
