I might try a pair of those some day. I'd have to get the Rotosounds, though. :P Actually, Paul McCartney used Rotosound Black Nylons on a Jazz Bass for tracks the "White Album," maybe albums, too.

The Nylon set I was going to send you was cut for a Rick. I like using the D'Addario, or La Bella Nylons. The D'addario Nylon sets on the Epi, and the two Fenders. The La Bella Nylon set on the Hofner.

I remember you telling me that D'Addario didn't do the nylons for the Hofner, so you had to go with La Bella.

Yes, that's the way D'Addario is planning to stay also, on the Hofner string style. They consider it to be a niche, not worth making the strings for it. I forget the exact wording they used, in my correspondence with them about the possibility of making up Hofner strings. There's a pretty good number of Hofners in the market place, and I guess they don't mind losing out on it. I'm not complaining though. The La Bella 760NHBB Nylons on the Hofner play great. I played the Hofner today, and it's a smooth player.

Funny for being a "niche," there's been so many copies made from it. Still are. http://www.fuenfhunderteins.de/index1.htm That's a site dedicated to it.

Yeah,...... but I wonder if the copies a true to the guitar size tuning pegs, as the Hofner's have. There are a lot of copies, that's for sure. At least the La Bellas fit, and play well.

I don't know, it seems most of them (including that Jay Turser one I played years ago) have regular bass tuners on them. Maybe some of the copies from the 60's and 70's might. Another thing is I wonder if short scales are long enough for the Hofner style because of the bridge set up? I know there's an issue with Bass VI strings with the Fender style model with the tremolo bridge and other models without that. Apparently some can be too short with the Fender, even though the scale is the same, but the bridge requires a longer string.

I think the EKO I had was a standard bass tuner. That string lengths were a blur from back then. From what they told me at D'Addario, strings are a standard basic 48" length, from ball to the tip. Silk windings, and scale length are a different story. I've been doing a bit better using a medium scale string, on short scale bass. The silk windings seem to pull up higher toward the winding peg, and further away from the nut. Leaving enough silk to not be wound up on the tuning peg still.
One thing about the 760NHBB strings, there is enough lead silk above the nut, and the scale fit is definitely for the Beatle Bass.
When I used Nylons on the Pawn Shop Mustang, it was a short scale, that had a great fit using Medium scale strings. But those Mustangs were strung through the body only, adding a bit more length. Short scale strings on those Mustangs were not a good fit with the silks sitting into the nut, by about 1/4" down into the nut.

Yeah, the string through the body can be problematic for short scale strings, from what I've heard. It's a good thing they make medium scale strings so you can compensate if you have to. Speaking of strings, I'm seriously thinking about getting a set of Rotosound Tru Bass 88 black nylons and put them on my Squier Jazz to see if I like them. If I really do, then I'll get some for the Schecter, too. I have to say, I've been listening to the Beatles albums lately, and I love the sound they had with a Jazz with those strings on it, from what I've read was used on a few tracks on the White Album. Although, the nylons could have been used on his Ric, and not the Jazz, but I'm going to try it anyway.

You know I use Nylons on any bass I have. I do like them. String through short scales can be just that.

Yeah, I'm pretty positive I'm going to pick some up when I get some spare cash, which should be pretty soon. They have them on sale, or pretty cheap at Guitar Center/Musician's Friend/Whatever, at least their websites. Unfortunately, AMS no longer carries Rotosound for whatever reason, so I have to shop elsewhere for those. Otherwise, I'd just get them from them, which I use to, along with most everything else.

I have to correct myself with further research. He used the Rotosound Tru Bass 88 nylons on his Hofner on "Let It Be" and maybe "Abbey Road." I couldn't find out if those were used on the Jazz bass or not. Maybe they were if they used them for the Hofner. I want to get a Hofner, or something similar for when I can get a hollowbody bass, so at least I know those strings are an option, since they do make them for short scale. I'm still getting them for the Jazz, anyway.

It can be a pain at times locating Nylons in smaller scales.

You've never tried the Rotosound kind?
