Just put on the new scratchplate for the AD Jazz and thought I'd post a pic here.

And now for something completely different.

Body and neck licensed by Fender (Warmoth), all three pickups are Fender Super 55 split-coils.

It's a replacement from WD Music?

From what I recall Fender doesn't sell post-2010 US Deluxe Jazz guards.

it's the Bootsy-inspired custom Jazz with the three Super 55s and complex control knobs! 8)

I wonder how each knob functions.

Passive? Active? Series/Parallel? Just curious.

Now that I know what you're referring to re: Bootsy, it's all good.

First up, everything is passive. There isn't a battery anywhere on the bass.

The pickups are all split-coils wired in series like a normal P pickup, and they are all parallel to each other. The first three concentric controls are V/T for each individual pickup.

Next in the circuit is a 6-position Turnstyle switch. It can function as a pickup selector switch, but it's capable of a helluva lot more than that. It's real job on my bass is as a tone selector switch. The first position gives me full manual control over all pickups. The remaining five spots are hard-wired tone presets that give me:
2. Precision
3. Jazz (with sweet spot dialed in)
4. Rickenbacker
5. Thunderbird
6. Overdrive

From there, everything goes to the jack through a master V/T.

The tone controls influence the high end, they don't truncate it. Too often, when a tone control is turned past 1/2 or 2/3, the sound drops off a cliff. The tone on my bass is useable at every combination of settings. Normally, apparently, wiring tone controls in series is problematic, but Michael at Turnstyle pulled it off somehow.

Despite the outward similarity to a Strat, there isn't a 5-way switch. I didn't want to be limited in what pickups or pickup combinations I could use. With my setup, I can have for example the bridge pickup on full and the other two at 80%, something that is not possible with the 5-way switch.

I hope that sufficiently answered your questions. I'll be happy to field any others you might have.

*Here's a peek under the hood, if you're interested.

Yep, and it was a perfect fit, too. That's now the third time I've bought from them and they always fit. A tad pricey though. They charge over $20 to ship to Canada which is ludicrous for an item that weighs almost nothing.

Does anyone know if Fender offered a Mahogany Wood Jazz bass body in 1972? All markings are correct... all contours, the filled router pin holes, pickup and control route sizes, all screw holes, bridge distance and router hump along the neck pocket. The body was never painted but did have some type of clear coat that can be seen only in the control cavity. http://s1317.photobucket.com/user/richg ... 5.jpg.html

Here's the before....
Image

and after!!
Image

All basses are modified with series/ parallel switching except the P-Bass, and all have the tone capacitor changed from the stock 0.05 microfarads to the 0.1 microfarads. I prefer the darker/ bassy tone I get when the tone pot is completely rolled off.
