All my other basses are "Jazz" style basses. The '72 is my only Fender. The rest are all Sadowsky basses. I'll probably go to Fender hell for posting this pic here!

Image
The top one is a 1988 NYC Standard originally made for Steve. W Rabe, founder of SWR.
The middle is a '09 NYC Standard fretless and the bottom one is my newest, a '10 Metro.

The last Fender Fretless I had was the Victor Bailey. That was a really nice bass, but did not make sense keeping it once I had the Sadowsky Fretless made for me. The Sadowsky was made to my specs, it features a neck shaped to match my '88 Sadowsky plus pickups in the '70s location for extra mid growl.

that's so cool! So other than the '72 all your gear is Sadowsky basses. How do you like the Carvin amp?

The Carvin is the cleanest amp I have ever used! I use it with two 8 ohm Avatar 2x12 cabinets, so I am pushing 1250 watts. Lots of head room! It is a real work horse of a amp and built like a tank. I use it mainly on bigger gigs, for 75% of my gigs I use a GK MB212 combo (2x12 @ 500W). That is a great sounding combo, and only weighs 37 lbs! That is just about the weight of the Carvin head!

That's awesome!! Have you ever tried the Carvin cabs? I've heard them, nice deep, classic bass thump - almost Ampeg ish. I've never hear how the Avatar sound like though, but people at Talk Bass swear by them.

Never tried the Carvin cabinets, but I am very happy with the Avatar cabinets, and they are light weight and low cost. I've had a number of Carvin basses in the past, they make a real nice bass at a very low price point for a "custom" bass.

Avatar? Is that just a goofy picture representing a bass cab? Or do they just come in a funky blue color with a long tail?

Well, that's where the argument lies, less tension, in a plane's belly, is where the neck gets all messed up. IDK, I always kept it tuned.

So I guess you never have had problems when you kept the bass tuned when flying, then? If so, I will follow your example.
