Yes and no, the type of music he plays, the sound he wants. That's like saying if you don't double tap as a bass player or slap you're not a bonafide bass player cuz it defeats the challenge of playing bass with just 2 fingers. But like my opinion, everyone has one too :wink:

Fender MIA Jazz Bass (1990/9) sans pickguard as you can see. I'm gonna get one but I've kinda grown attached to the kind-of-jaco look. (yes I know theres a big rout there but I like it!). Thats my Laney RB4 there too - love it any tone for any occasion when coupled with a jazz bass.

i betchya nobody has seen a 5 string jazz with a bridge plate and a pickup cover on. i dont got ne pics tho. its an 06 Fender MIM Jazz bass. the color is midnight wine red. it looks so awesome.
