What is the difference between the victor bailey 5 sting vs the victor bailey 4 string? I noticed that the color of the body is very different between the 4 and 5 string.

There's nothing different except for the fingerboard material. Both basses use the same koa wood.

The 4-string fretted and fretless VB Jazzes had a rosewood fretboard. The 5-string version sported a pao ferro fingerboard until 2006, when Fender switched to rosewood for all 5-string basses.

Pao ferro is a cross between rosewood and maple.

There is a lot of variation in the appearance of the koa tops and that might be what you are seeing. Mine is a rather plain top but others appear much more highly figured. It doesn't bother me as it is there for tone, not appearance, and the VB is indeed a superb Jazz bass.
