Looking for player's experiences here with looping stations, like the one that Ed Friedland uses in his videos. I'm interested in recommendations and experiences here.

Another question would be the plus/minuses of live gigs going through the PA via a Line 6 Pod or similar method. I'm debating whether to get a Pod or just lug around an amp. I've played through amps live in a variety of settings and also "through the house", and like anything else, how well you can hear yourself depends on the usual grab bag of factors (i.e., size of venue, house acoustics, your position on the stage, etc.). SO, what do you guys (and girls) think about using your own amp versus going direct?

I don't use a Line 6 Pod but do use a Tech21 Sansamp bass driver in all situations and the logic is the same. It fits in my pocket and gives me a consistent, constant tone from gig to gig, venue to venue.
The XLR out goes into the PA and the regular guitar "out" goes into whatever bass amp the venue has on stage (most venues will have a backline in situ or you can normally ask another band on the night if you can use their equipment).
If there is no onstage amp then simply get the engineer to route back a decent level of bass signal through the monitors. Either way you will be able to hear yourself.
I am firmly of the view that investing in and then lugging around an amp and cabinet is a mug's game and offers little discernible benefit, apart from the fact it can look "cool" to have some monster boy-toy of gear behind you on stage.
I'd rather have a healthy back and a consistent tone anywhere I play, with minimal hassle (and cost)!
