I've been trying to purchase a new MIA STD Jazz Bass but every retailer I go to is telling me fender is making a new issue and they can't order any new basses until fender releases the new one.

Should I hunt around for a used fender bass or is it worth it to wait for the new issue?

Is that new or used?

Yeah anything from 2008-2009 should be really good. If you can find one, no reason to wait for a 2010 model that I'm aware of.

I have a late '07 'burst that I bought new in '08 and it is a quality instrument! It has a rosewood board but I'm trading it for a new Oly White Am. Std. P with a maple board. The reason I'm parting with it is I prefer the Precision neck and I can't afford to have another instrument lying around that doesn't get played(I have 2 Strats, a '78 L.P. Std. and an '83 Gibson that hardly ever come out of their cases). The only thing that I'd change out of the box is the strings, otherwise they are probably some of the best production basses made.

That seems a bit high, but I can only speak for where I live.

It does. I paid almost $1200 for my brand new 2009 Jazz last March.

Any Fender MiA instrument has amazing potential and it would take a lot to find one in good condition that sounds bad. Keep in mind this HMV bridge Fender has just recently (in retrospect to how old the company is) come out with could be a mirror of how the Badass Bridges act, which is the single best bridge after-market product I reccomend to people. So if you were to pick up this amazing 2005 American Standard Jazz bass and then see oh, it doesn't have the bridge, I'm not buying it now, well pick up the Badass II and you'll be set. As far as some of the parallel switching that could be offered or higer grade electronics, you can do that yourself too. Most of these pickups that they drop down into the hoods can be replaced by SCN or some other aftermarket pickup that Fender offers which wont necesarilly take any vaule off the bass but nearly add it because of how the pickup is offered by Fender and mostly considered an upgrade. Anyway, good luck with your bass choices and as I said above any Fender MiA instrument would be hard to find a bad one.
