USA made Fenders are, and always have been, the flagship models. Whether they're the best in terms of quality...well that's a) a whole 'nother debate and b) totally subjective!

However I personally feel that Mexican Fenders are excellent in quality and Japanese ones even more so. Even Squiers have been getting rather impressive as of late (I believe some Squiers are made in Indoneasia and some in Mexico - but don't quote me on that).

well, what do you want in your bass??? if you want value, then Mexican made are the best, if you want features, then the American made are the best, some of the deluxe j-basses are pretty cool, and even the jaguar, which is the jazz bass with 2 band eq, and a tone pot. it all depends on your price range. the Mexicans are cheaper, but are simpler. though the Americans are more expensive, they have higher quality PUPs, lighter gauge tuning pegs, etc. t omake a recommendation, i need to know a price range.

I only have a MIM 1997 one used, with the case for $300, i had to replace the bridge and am probably gonna replace the PUP's and then maybe the tuning pegs, then it will be better than the standard. but it sounds great and it is right down my price lane.
