What do I need? a 15W or a 30W?

If you have an active bass, and all you want to do is practice without disturbing your neighbors, buy some cheap headphones and a 1/4" phone adapter. This works perfectly fine as long as your goal is enough volume to hear yourself without blasting your eardrums. Dean makes a headphones-only practice amp if you want more volume. There is also a product called a JamPlug made by DVForge that might work.

I practice with a pair of Koss headphones from Wal Mart and an adapter from Radio Shack. It works fine and apparently doesn't drain the battery any more than regular playing would.

How much are you looking to spend?

That little 30w Warwick Blue Cab amp impressed me. Also alot of people seem to like the Acoustic brand combo-amps, I personally don't like them though.
