Hello.
I am thinking about buying a Jazz Bass, but one I've seen looks a bit special. It's (according to the seller) a MIA Jazz Bass, but the body looks very weird. Can someone explain what it is?

This looks like a Jazz Bass Plus with the Kubicki electronics. They were made in the 90s and favored by some not only for the electronics but the slim neck as well. They came in 4 and 5 string versions.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how it sounds compared to regular Jazz Basses?

I had the opportunity to play one some years ago and remember it being sweet to play and really great tone.

You can't really compare this to the sound of a "regular" Jazz as it is not a regular Fender. For example a Highway One would have more in common with a Mexican Standard than the Plus. The pickups are different and more importantly the electronics are different.

That being said, I like the sound myself. I recently had a chance to play a 5-string version and found it to be very comfortable. I would say the sound is a little more punchy than some active Jazz basses, and of the course the knobs function differently as well. Info on this is available on the 'net.

Hello! :)
I just didn't understand something.
Is this a custom bass or is it a particular model?

The Jazz Bass Plus was a regular production model in the early 90s.
From 1990 to 1993 approximately, Fender made this bass in 4 and 5 string models.

At that time, Kubiki had an arragement with Fender to produce Kubiki Ex-Factor and Factor bass models in the custom shop.

The Jazz bass Plus used the same preamp and controls as the Kubicki basses being made at that time.

It is a very unique Fender bass model, but it was not a custom model.

If you haven't already bought this bass, you should be aware that the prices asked for them vary widely. The five-string I saw locally was for about $700.00, which I think is a fair price. I have seen them for as much as 2,000.00. IMHO this is a fine bass, but I would not pay two grand for one. You have to think about what your money will buy and consider all options. Another thing to consider is that bass design changes over time, usually for the better. I would rather spend $2,000 for the latest technology and ergonomics than an old bass with unknown issues and yesterday's science, but that's me.

Spend wisely.
