My Jazz Bass (Korea) $500 has active pickups. My Squire Bass (China) $199 has the passive stock . I tried playing both of them through my Ameg set-up (810E and SvT 4-PRO) and I was impressed with the total bottom sound that the Jazz had. It must be the active pick-ups used . I do like this Jazz Bass but I'm looking at getting a P bass real soon. My general question is do active pick-ups really make this kind of difference?
The P basses I looked at all have passive (which I prefer) . active seem to have a feedback when directly in from of my amps. Thanks...........

Sounds like an issue how your gain is adjusted.

In regards to the bottom with the active Jazz, if you have the bottom eq boosted, this will inherently increase the lows. It would be the same as boosting the bass on your amp., but of lesser quality than the eq on the amp. The amps, eq. has much more headroom. So, if you like the passive tone, find a P-bass you really dig (tone & feel), and adjust the tone from the amp.
