I have some questions about a 2004 Hwy 1 Jazz bass
1. When were the bridge saddles changed from the threaded type to the solid barrel w/ notch type?
2. What is the best way to remove oxidation(rust) from the pole piece tops?
3. Is the Badass II bridge that is used on current models a retro-fit to the 2004 models bridge? Do the 5 holes line up, or is a mod needed?
4. Are the pickups used in 2004 the same as the other MIA models from that year. Alnico or ceramic?
5. Random question- Why do some Jazz and Precision basses come with the thumbrest mounted above the strings while others have it mounted below the strings. Many others have NO thumbrest at all??
Thanks in advance Fender Fans!!

I know where to get the CURRENT specs for this bass, right here in the website. I am looking for info on a 2004 model!!!!!!!!!!!!Those specs you have in your post are for basses after 7/2006, so it doesn't help me with my questions.
Thanks, but.....

The 2004 model differs from the current one a lot. The badass should fit in the current mounting holes.

In 2006 they changed the line: gave it the badass bridge, gave it the greasbucket tone circuit, and put graphite support rods in the neck.

The thumbrest was on older basses, but is excluded from the current non-reissue basses.

They were originally to the side of the G string, and were used as a place to put your fingers if you pluck with your thumb. Some time in the 70s (I think) they put the thumbrest next to the E string to rest your thumb on when you play fingerstyle. They eventually got rid of the thumbrest altogether (though I'm not sure when).

The Badass Bass II bridge is a direct replacement for five hole Fenders. So is the Gotoh 201, which some find to be cosmetically more pleasing and more pleasing tonewise, also. It is also more inexpensive and easier to find than the BA II.

To remove rust from the barrels, if you can remove the bridge, WD 40 and a toothbrush will work wonders.
