Hey guys basically a 4-string player and maybe thinking about starting 5 which would be pretty interesting. Into a huge variety of music from slap to alternative and even slap / funk in alternative music. Post a pick of your beloved 5-string here who it's by and why you chose it ! Thanks! :)

I love this bass...

Excerpt From the Fender Roscoe Beck Signature 5-String Jazz Bass review by Scott Malandrone:

Besides a platinum record, a fast car, and a big house, one of the highest levels of success a musician can achieve is a "signature series" instrument made to his or her specifications. One player that deserves such an instrument is monster bassist Roscoe Beck: his deft lines can be heard supporting guitar greats Eric Johnson and Robben Ford. Well, his namesake axe is finally here: the Fender Roscoe Beck Signature 5-string combines the best of early J-Bass sounds—even from its tight-sounding B string. In fact, the RB bass is one of the finest 5's under $1,500 we've played. Here's why....

....According to Fender, their design goal was "to develop a non-active 5-string that would capture the nuances of a '60s Jazz Bass." We think the company has achieved their objective, as the Fender Roscoe Beck is about as close to the "ultimate mid-priced 5-string" as it gets.

I can speak from personal / professional experience, this bass prints to tape (any format) and sits or cuts live, depending what you do &/or select wonderfully. :!:

This tone tool makes the sonic job very easy, I know I am the only one to blame if the results are not cool.

Unfortunately, it is discontinued. It is another long story.

The alternative is the new award winning & critically acclaimed passive Fender American Standard basses.

Because I already have the Jazz Bass sound covered, I would love to have the new Precision V, though if you are looking for versatility, look know further than the Jazz V, I think you will be hooked. Great sounding 'B' while retaining the classic Fender Jazz Bass tone, not an easy acheivemt for the price of the MIA bass.

Check out this BP Mag. review...they also loved them and gave them the Editors Pick Award...

I own a 1997 Fender/Squire ProTone Precision bass V, and love it. I purchased it used for $250, and it is worth every penny. I know Squire is the budget line for Fender, but the ProTone series is of very high quality, and I have found this bass to be made very well.

i'd like a 5 string since i can play without tuning down my 4 strings..
