I was hoping for more new basses besides just the 60th anniversary jazz. At least an American Special bass would be nice. They just scaled back the american deluxe line, and I assumed it was because they were gonna have new american deluxe basses. Now they have a handful of deluxe jazz basses: I know the economy isn't great, but the american deluxe line is virtually gone. I just don't get it.

Sign of the times. There isn't much going on with R&D. It has to tough to keep improving the wheel: the Fender Bass.

I do agree, there was much new technology in general for bassists at the recent show. It was very light with Fender this go-around.

Maybe it will be very fender heavy next year.

Hi Annibis - I think you meant the 50th Anniversary Jazz.
I think the whole product line tha tFender has to support has to be a burden in these tough times.
If you count all of the different Fender bass models offered. Its a very high number.

I can see why they may want to scale it back.

My bad, yeah I meant the 50th anniversary.

I mean, I completely understand why they didn't release anything. It won't stop me from being a little disappointed though.

On a side note it's interesting to see how different companies have dealt with the hard times. Many, like fender, have cut R&D or trimmed down their product line. Then there are companies like Ernie Ball which released more new products this year (I think 9 new guitars and basses) than they have in many many years.

I hope that at the very least that they offer different colors on the basses this year.
