lately i've been seeing ampeg ba115 with p basses.. haven't seen them with jazzes... as for jeff berlin.. i think his amp doesn't have horns but i love his tone... but i think its a bit different from a jazz..

Yeah, Jeff's bass definitely has a very distinct, almost chorusy sound. It's a shame that there really aren't many good sound bites or videos showcasing the tone of markbass amps.

They're not cheap and Genz Benz 6.0 shuttle is even more exensive. Carvin makes a lightweight powerful bass head for under $400 and it goes down to 2 ohms. They don't sell them in stores except California. You can order on line. Goes go to Carvin's web site. They also look like they have some cool combo's.

Markbass certainly is not cheap, but it is cheaper than a lot of the professional level amps out there.

Also, I think you sent me a link to the wrong video~

Yeah, the F-1 uses a class D power amp. Compared to their other class A/B amps, the Markbass class D amps have a little faster a sound and a little more high mids. They sound great.

Heh, the guy is walking over "Oleo." I just played that tune in a concert, it's a fun one.

Heh, that would be pretty awesome.

Also, if you love the f1 you might also like the little mark 800 or little mark 800 tube. They both have the same power amp as the f1, plus some extra features.

It's hard to say what a good cab pair is for that head. It really depends what you're looking for. I like playing out of 10's, but a lot of people love those amps through 15's.

Also, on a side note, I'm thinking of putting my CS 60's in my fretless jazz and putting 62 reissue pickups in my MIA jazz. Don't get me wrong, I love the CS 60s, but I just keep EQing more high mids and high end into my tone, so I think the 62's might be more my flavor. But based on the kind of tone you're looking for, I think you'd really like the CS 60s.

what do you mean by 10's and 15's? 1x10 and 1x15 cabs??

sorry noobie question...

actually i'm caught in the same option myself Fender Original 62's and Fender CS 60s..
the Original 62 are my favorites in terms of using nickel rounds eg Sunbeams and Fender 7250

but is it really true that lot of people complain about the 62 originals saying string balance ... etc.. i read most would go for Nordstrand or maybe Lollars...

Yeah, I was reffering to 1x15 and 1x10 (or 2x10).

And yeah, both the CS 60s and original 62s are great pickups but a little different. The string balance issue can really be solved by adjusting the pickup height. The thing is that it's not terribly hard to get the 62 RI sound out of the CS 60s or the CS 60s sound out of the 62 RI sound.

I will say that the 62s are more aggressive in the upper mids, which is something I happen to like. The CS 60's sound a little smoother but still have a lot of note clarity. Also the fact that it doesn't have too much treble is why I think I'll really love the CS 60's in my fretless. I mean, they're very similar to Jaco's pickups.

Also, Nordstrand pickups sound different than the 62s. To me they sound a little less "passive," almost having an active quality.

to me nordies have more glassy... high end...

unlike that of the cs 60s slightly reduced and sweet highs...

i sometimes wonder why people would change the stock 62 pickups...

another question.. .

how does 1x15 differ to 2x10 in terms of sound?/
i've seen most people have 4x10 and 1x15 rigs

15" speakers have more bottom end and less midrange. Because of the physics of a larger vs. a smaller speaker, it takes more time for the sound to reach you. Pushing high end through them can get a little glassy.

10" are punchier and have a stronger midrange and high end response. They also have a much faster response.

People often have rigs with both to have the advantages of both. Personally I like 10" speakers. I think they can carry low end just fine.

Me, I like 15's for the bottom end. After all,to me, that's what bass is all about. With my current amp (Ampeg BA115) I can get that bottom end, and depending on the way I set my tone controls and style switch, I can still get the punchiness I need to cut thru the mix.
