Does anyone know if it's possible to re-wire a Jazz Bass (and keep S-1 switching in tact) for the following configuration?

Instead of having the standard VOL-VOL-TONE, I would like to have a VOL-BLEND-TONE. S-1 Switching wouldn't be affected - series mode would have the same configuration as current: VOL-OFF-TONE.

At least this would be my preference.

If anyone knows of a wiring diagram, or any insight on this (I am sure i am not the first person to want to do this), please add to the conversation.

Thanks,

Jim C

It is, but it is a bit complicated. Here's a diagram for your convenience:

Thanks Martian, but this looks like what I have now - two volume pots, one with a switch (your diagram has a push/pull, mine has a button top switch), and a tone pot. This is stock for J basses with S-1 I believe.

I want to change my configuration to one volume, one pickup BLEND, and one tone, but still keep the series option that the S-1 switching gives me.

It looks like the link you provided allows folks without an s1 switch to create one.

I found this diagram, and it does MOST of what I want, but doesn't include the S-1 series configuration:

It is possible, but in series mode the blend knob has to be turned to the neck pickup. You can mostly follow the wiring diagrams that are in the talkbass link (I'm looking at the 2nd one, the Seymour Duncan diagram). Follow all of that except for the white lead from the bridge pickup and the black lead from the neck pickup. Right now those should be hooked up to the S-1 switch, which is good. One wire should be leading from the S-1 to the ground. Leave that. The wire that originally led from the S-1 to the middle lug of the bridge volume should now go to to the bottom middle lug of the blend knob.

There may be a more elegant way of doing this that doesnt require you to blend to the neck pickup when you use the S-1, but I can't think of a way right now.

Another alternative is to replace the S-1 switch with a push/pull switch. It is the same function, just changes from a push/push button to a push/pull knob.
