Fender was sold to CBS in January 1965. Serial numbering didn't change immediately because instruments continued to be made using existing, tooling, parts and serial number schemes.

200,000s 1968
200,000s to 300,000s 1969 to 1970

Hope that helps

I don't want to burst your bubble ,but I think you have a reproduction Jazz body coupled to a a real 1969 Fender Jazz bass neck.
The bass body appears to have all of the original pickups and controls of a period correct Fender Jazz but the pickguard is not Fender.

Is it not possible that the body is original wood and only the pickguard was replaced? Looks like there was some red in the mix somewhere though. So the body has been refinished for sure. I blew up the neck pocket photo and I'm seeing (besides traces of red paint) some faint Fender pocket markings. This led me to think it was stripped. I think this entire body was refinished a very, very long time ago. I've studied the pot codes and can't make them out for sure. I'd need better photos or the entire pot sequence. I'm seeing a 65 and a 68 in there and can't tell where those numbers fall. I'm also seeing an 85. So I don't know what to go by without seeing the entire sequence. Furthermore the electronics look original down to the solder joints.

At any rate, whatever it is...I bet that it is a good player!

There are several features of the body that lead me to conclude that the body is aftermarket.

!. The routes are wrong. the control cavity it too large and the wrong shape and there is a truss rod access route that is non original. I will admit that these holes could've been enlarged, but for what reason? The bass doesn't have active electronics or and added pots or switches.

2. There are no holes in the body for a finger rest or tug bar.
Even if the pickguard was replaced those holes should be in the body and there is pristine wood in that area. No filler, no holes.

3. There are no pin router mounting holes on the body that I can see in these pictures but the lack of finger rest holes is conclusive in my estimation.

ergo: this bass body is not a Fender body.

It may be a great playing bass though and I am not knocking the instrument. I just have issues with it being represented as a 1969 Jazz Bass.

The bridge, pickups and controls look to be from Fender and the right age to be legit but a close inspection would be needed to be sure.
