well the stock MIMs to my ears have more low mids with high end crisp... which gives that twangy slap tone..

but the custom 60's with a good EQ can have a good slap tone as well, i love em' especially bridge solo'ed..

when both played on a flat EQ... i think the custom 60s are fuller sounding than the 62's.. and well 62's do have the slightly higher high mids with less low mids which a lot of reviews have been saying that the stock 62 pickups are well thinner sounding...

however if i would define vintage.. they're not really smooth or perfect or anything like it.. they're simple raw and woody..

Yeah, that's pretty much my thoughts on them, sort of the best of both wolds. I found also if you have a slight low mid and low end cut and boost the overall volume you can get really close to the 62 RI tone.

i was thinking the same thing... sometimes its better to have a pickup with that distinct midrange.. its a lot easier to cut rather than boost.. boosting a scooped pickups for me gives a lot more honk than growl.. i don't know some people probably mistaken the growl for "treble bite" rather than high mid bite..

The more I experiment the more I find that to be the case. This isn't to say you shouldn't boost, but prefer to use boosting to tweak rather than drastically changing the tone. The custom 60s has a big pallet of mids to effect, which I really like. And even when I cut some mids for shaping, it's still mid heavy.

That's a really good slap tone IMO. It has a low mid scoop, but still keeps the high mid grow. And it doesn't have the biting treble that you get a lot with slap: a plus in my book. Are those done wtih CS60s? You couldn't definitely get hat sound by scooping some low mids.

comment from the one who uploaded it
"It's from 2000/2001. The tone you hear it's due to new strings, custom shop 60's PU and a bit of compression."

even with fresh strings it doesn't sound harsh.. they're plain sweet..

Yeah. I play with steal strings (DR hi-beams) and they sound great with these pickups. With the stock pickups they got very glassy and harsh, but these pickups still have high end just without the bite, which works really well for me.

Antiquity IIs are very similar to the CS60s. I haven't done a side by side comparison between them, but I do know they're both overwound vintage style pickups.

It's difficult to compare those two tones on the video, because there are so many other variables besides the pickups.

yeah including EQ, strings, amp ... etc

but i guess they have both similar midrange emphasis with a little cut at the highs giving it a beefier and smoother tone..
