I've noticed some items have disappeared since Fender launched the new site. Let me know if I miss any.

Jazz:

Classic 70's jazz bass
american deluxe ash, ash 5 string, fretless ash, regular am. deluxe, am. deluxe 5 string.

Precision:

No model has been dropped as far as I can tell, but there is only one remaining color for the Am. Deluxe

Jaguar:

The bass is still there, but they dropped olympic white.

I have a strong feeling we're gonna be seeing new American Deluxe basses this NAMM. Over the past two years Fender has revamped the standard and american standard line, and the American Deluxe series hasn't been upgraded for a number of years. And considering the website is only displaying one color of the am. delx. precision, and only has the left handed fretted and fretless versions of the am. delx. jazz, I think something is definitely up.

I think Fender discontinued most of its American Deluxe models to save money and reduce production costs, probably because of the credit crunch. It's just a mere scenario, nothing else.

This brings me a lot of memories when they discontinued the fretless Jazz Bass for a short period in 2002 before reintroducing it in mid-2005.

The other (and perhaps the most optimistic) thing seems a bit obvious: the American Deluxe line is undergoing a major redesign with some new features such an active/passive switch (useful when your batteries die during a gig), new body finishes and pickguard colours, an optional ebony fretboard along with the traditional rosewood and maple ones, and finally many of the upgrades found on the US and Mexican-made Standard series models - such as the high mass vintage bridge or the tinted maple necks with the buffed-up glossy fretboard.

The Classic 70's Jazz is still listed. I just made another post not see this one. But the Stu UrgeII and Roscoe Beck have also been discontinued.

looks like the Am Deluxe HSS models with the ebony fretboard and either quilted or flamed maple tops are gone as well.

Good news though fellas, most of these discontinued models still are floating around in Guitar Centers and other musical stores around for your purchasing availability :)

The American Deluxe basses had not been discontinued but updated with a totally fresh look and classic CBS-era styling. The active/passive switch is here with a good ol' passive tone control for all you vintage freaks while the 21-fret necks feature a compound radius for greater playing comfort and decreased hand fatigue.

The older Deluxes were too futuristic and sterile-sounding. The revamped series has a set of brand-new N3 noiseless pickups which retain the familiar old-school Fender bass sounds of the past without the hum.

I've been looking for the way discontinued and very rare American Jaco FRETTED Jazz bass. I have two of the fretless versions, but have been looking for the fretted version. Anyone have one and how's the sound?

Someone posted that they got rid of the Stu Hamm Urge II basses, say it sin't so :(

I've a Korean made 24 fret J Bass 5 string which I've been told was dropped. A shame as the instrument is very affordable and nicely made. The preamp (S. Duncan Basslines) crapped out on me but it still works in passive mode.

I have a Fender Jazz bass 24 as well. I love it! My preamp went out as well and I replaced it with a Bartolini preamp. It sounds amazing and has a nice smooth growl to it!!!

Why did they discontinue these basses, besides the fact most of the preamps went out on them?
