hey all,

i was looking at geting this bass(link below) as i can pay it off in installments but what is it? description says its fender jazz bass but if you look at headstock it says stratocatster with what looks like a small fender logo next to it.

what i would like to knowis, is it licensed by Fender or not?
and if so if anyone know anything about it.

thanks a lot in advance for you time.

Welcome.

You've misread the headstock. It is a Starcaster, licensed by Fender. The Starcaster line is a rock bottom beginner's line of instruments and IMO, one step above a toy. You'd do infinitely better to check out Fender's Squier line of basses.

Thanks alot for the fast reply!

oooh my bad :O i feel like a right tit now lol.
is it just the pick ups, bridge and tuners that are budget? or is there other differences like neck dimensions?

if its just the pick ups and things that are no as good that would be fine because im planing on customizing it anyways with new pups, bridge and tuners if there that bad. paint job and custom graphic pick-guard as it will be a stage instrument so needs a lil flair! and i cant afford to buy a real fender :( lmao.

i would get a squire 70s mod jazz bass but cant find a place to pay instalments so this will have to do i the neck is the same size ex.

Thanks alot for your time again.
look forward to hearing your replies

You're welcome.

I was trying to be diplomatic about it but since you asked, the Starcaster series is essentially one step above a toy with dimensions unique unto themselves. Unless you intend on smashing it after one song where for that song, tonality, tuning and intonation are not necessarily required, I'd simply forget that they exist altogether, time payments and/or upgraded hardware not withstanding. They are NOT a viable alternative to even any 'B' line instrument. YMMV.

Just got it and i believe its the same as the Squire Affinity J Bass, came with the same sticker on pick-guard and same neck plate....Only diffrance i can see is it says Starcaster on the Headstock. Confused even more now lol.

Apart from it knowing what it wants to be its sounds quite nice out of the box, Notation is VERY slightly off but nothing a set up wont fix. You can get a few different tones out of each pick up will be even better after fitting new pick ups and bridge. tuners seem k at the mo but cant really tell as i am still waiting for strings to settle.

finishing on the neck is nice with descent wood, nice skunk stripe to, it has a black body witch i don't like so planing on spraying it a nice blue.

after seeing and playing this bass martin i don't agree with your first statements, its good instrument for the price and i'm more then happy with it, i got the sound i like for a price i could afford and i am glad i dint listen to your arrogance.
