Anyone use the half round strings anymore? It's been a while since I've tried them. Does anyone else make them otherthan D'Addario?

Pressure wounds are different than half rounds. I use DR hi-beams and those are pressure rounds. It's something in the manufacturing that makes them have a lower tension.

Hello!

I have half rounds on 2 different basses. One has D'Addario and one has GHS Brite Flats. I am a long tiome D'Addario string fan but must say I am impressed by the GHS so far. And they feel smoother to the fingers than the D'Addarios.

I also have a set of GHS Pressure Wounds and they feel amazingly smooth for a round, but that is only from taking them out of the package and inspecting therm. I have not strung them on a bass yet.

well i got this from the GHS forums..

The Bright Flat string is a round wound string that is ground flat. A
Pressure Wound string is a round wound string lightly burnished or
polished sometimes called a "half round" string. Pressure Wound strings
are brighter in tone than Bright Flats but not as bright as a round
wound. Bright Flats are in between a Flat Wound and Pressure Wound in
brightness

I gotta admit, I change my strings at very long intervals, so I don't stray very often.

My 66 jazz has D'Addario half rounds on it, and the Lee bass has what came on it. Looking at changing it over to half rounds.

I am afraid to switch to something I may not like though. I am a creature of habit.

I am a P-Bass player.
I used the D'Addario halfs for a bit. I also used the SIT Bass Silencers for a while. I really liked the SIT's. I will use them again, I just gotta get lighter gauges.

How long on the current set, or in my lifetime? :)

I have used half rouonds since I can remember.

I believe the set I have on right now is this:

what i meant was, the lifespan of the half rounds... like the XL dies for about 5-6 months since first installed...

I don't really know. Everyone has a little different opinion. I tend to leave strings on longer than most people do. Your actual mileage may vary.....

Seriously though, I believe they last longer. I have used strings so long that tiny pieces would flake off and embed in my fingers. I have never had that issue with these.
