Halo. I need some help. Does anybody know the year of production of this bass: It is a Jazz Bass from de 60´s.
The headstock says: "JAZZ BASS. Trade Mark. ELECTRIC BASS". Also says "Offset Custom Body".

The neck joint is squared tipe, 4 screws. The reference L94046 is written on it.

Thank you very much!

dude... i checked your bass here.. http://guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton Plant (Fender - Pre CBS Era), USA
in the Year(s): 1965

Fender: Fullerton

The Fullerton factory opened in 1946, Fullerton California with the first major electric solid body guitar production began in 1950 with the Broadcaster (later known as the Telecaster). Sold in 1965 to CBS who in 1985 sold Fender to a group of private investors the plant was not included in that sale and was subsequently closed.

Value depends on condition of the instrument. Knowing the serial is ONLY one thing, knowing the complete instrument is quite another.

NOW is not the best time to be unloading a pre-CBS bass. I'd suggest holding it, no matter how clean it might be. Because in a year or two or three once the vintage market recovers a bit you would make out much better. Way better actually.

In late 64 they began Fulllerplasting the bodies. So it isn't worth as much as a Pre-64. But we are still looking at a significant value. Possibly from 3 to 10 K. Now, the longer you keep it, the more it will be worth. NO WAY should you even try to sell it right now. Values are way depressed now due the economic collapse in the USA.

Repeating, do NOT sell it now unless you need surgery money for a kidney transplant. The longer you can stand to keep it, the more it will be worth.

Of course all that is condition critical. You instrument could be a complete piece of phony junk. I'd suggest getting it appraised by a respected authority so you will know for sure what you have and then go from there.

I also have a 1965 Pre-CBS J Bass.. I know *most* of the history of the bass, as I've had it since I was 15 years old in 1966. It had been hocked or sold at a photo shop, from what I'm told, by the original purchaser.. I played "semi-pro" from around late '64 to about 1970..

Picked it up again for a while and "almost" played with a C&W band that played gigs at bars with fences to keep the crowd back!

That didn't work out and I've just kept it all these years.. Brings me to tears, but I may have to sell it..

It's missing the front chrome pickup guard.. I had it but an old cat of mine, many moons ago, found it in a box and pee'd on it! The chrome blistered from the acid and I tossed it probably 20 years ago.

I played it a fair amount so there's the usual wear on the neck, and on the back from belt buckles.. but she still plays nice..

Ideas what this old friend of mine might be worth?

God I hate to part with it, my late father bought it for me and it was my prized posession for most of my early life..

I survived cancer 5 years ago and my subsequent medical bills are eating me alive... even with insurance.. so I may have to bite the bullet...

Ideas?
