Hey!

I'm about to buy a new bass, but I don't know if I'd rather buy a p-bass or a jazz. I'm 17 and I play in a rock/alternative band a bit like paramore and a bit like rise against, but when I'm alone I play funky grooves much more like flea from the rhcp. So, I need a versatile bass that I can keep for a long time

I've only tried the jazz since it's the only fender in the music store nearby. I liked his "crunch" so much but I wonder how the P-bass feel and sound.

Can someone help me out?

thanks!

id say get a jazz bass. Its not just the pickups that differ. The body, and kneck feel different to. I like the jazz bass that i got. It feels really normal to my hand and i can play alot faster with it.

Funk, i would use a jazz bass. So go with what you want. What feels good to you.

I picked up my jazz bass from samash for $550. Along with a case and a warranty. They charged me $684.
Which is really good because they brought the prices down for me.

Jazz +1. Nothing else like it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

c'mon people its a jazz bass thread..

if you play a lot of slap stuff and funky groove, well I'd have to agree with the jazz bass...

if its about rock tones, i'd pick p bass.. and who says you can't slap the p bass..

Ever watched Paramore live clips, JAZZ BASS lol. P-Basses are great for punk and hard rock but from my own experience it doesn't matter either will do the job great. And you liked the Jazz so get the Jazz.

I p-bass has a fatter sound in my opinion. I also like the feel of the neck on a P-bass more. I really like my Jazz bass a lot, but my P-bass is my #1.

That describes both basses. Play as many as you can until you find the one that feels and sounds right to YOU. Check out pawn shops, you can find some nice pieces there.

Play both, then decide. Make up your own mind. Me I like P-basses better for almost everything, but that has not stopped me from buying four Jazzes over the years just because they were pretty! LOL.
