Well my birthday present to myself just came in today! A new Fender Victor Bailey Jazz Fretless. First I have to say, the case it comes in is beautiful in its own right!

Well I have to say this is an awesome bass. The Koa top is a bit on the plain side, but I figured it would be since figured Koa is getting harder to find. Still though, it is a good looking bass. The Rosewood accent in the middle of the body is a nice touch (even though I would be the only one to see it). The weight feels about the same as my Fender Am Deluxe Jazz FMT. And the workmanship on the Victor is nothing less then flawless. After a small tweak of the truss rod, the neck plays like butter. Very comfortable feeling. The stock flatwound strings that came on it were horrible (never liked flats). So off with them on with a set of D'Addario Nickel Roundwounds. Now....MAN! Does this bass sing. The tones of this bass are very crisp and full. It for sure has more balls to it then my Fender Jazz 24 fretless (which is also a great sounding bass). So here are some quick photos I took:

There is an old thread coming back! I posted that a little over a year ago. Very nice yes, and I would highly recommend them.....but I just sold it! (and the Jazz 24 is gone too)

I have a new Sadowsky fretless that will be finished within a week or so. I could not justify keeping both, so I had to let it go.

Here is a sneak peak of the Sadowsky fretless, this photo was taken right after the body was finished.

But in all fairness to Fender, I still LOVE my FMT Jazz bass. I would NEVER get rid of that bass!

That bass is very nice i have the VB 5 string and I absolutely love it. The only problem I have had in the year I have owned it is one of the tuning machines basically fell apart on me but Fender covered the repair costs. Also I didn't know the 24 came in a fretless... I really want a fretless but I wouldnt play it enough to justify spending a boatload of money... I really wanted the Jaco model but the pricing on that model has gone too high.

VB basses look and sound ace but for the money I'd expect abit more for my money: like a EB Music Man (I can only quote as i own one but I'm sure other guitars have them too) battery compartment for quicker access for battery changes and not having to spend 10 minutes p*ssing about with the screws on the one it comes with.

in fact, I think all fender active basses and guitars should have them as they put me off most that have them :x surely they're not too expensive to fit for a few extra £/$????
most active fenders are expensive enough anyway and rightfully deserve them

anyhow.... what made you sell both fenders?
good luck with your sadowsky custom :D

When I got the Victor Bailey Fretless, as nice as the Jazz 24 was it really was not getting any use. I'm a player, not a collector. So it did not make sense holding on to it.

As far as the VB Fretless, I know once I get the Sadowsky fretless (which should be in a few weeks), the VB would end up sitting in the closet. I got a year of great playing on it, so it was time to give it a new home. Also to be honest, the sale of VB is also helping offset the big $$$ of the Sadowsky!

But I still have a Japanese '62 RI Fender Jazz Fretless which I love!
