Hey guys, i bought my own bass guitar a few days ago and its a fender. It was the first thing that caught my eye in Sam Ash. And I couldnt let it go. And plus it had a pretty price tag. I just have a few questions

Anyway.

So i want to know what is safe to clean this with. I spent all my money on the bass and case and cant buy the cleaner/polish for it.

Can i use armor all?

When the switch is flicked up is the active pickups on or off?

And the could someone tell me what each of the knobs adjust? It didnt come with a manual, nor could i find one on the internet.

Well thats all for now, I just love playing this.

Thanks guys.

Armor all?? Seriously! Leave that for your car!

I soft cloth will due for day to day cleaning. For extra cleaning, I wipe it down good then use Martin Guitar Polish.

The controls are: Vol / Pan / Bass-Treble Stacked Knob (if I remember right) and Mids. Just turn the knobs while playing, you will figure out which is which. The switch is a Mid-scoop switch, which does just like it is called. I do not believe you can put that bass into passive mode from what I remember. I think newer models may have had a push/pull for active/passive. Usually the vol knob.

Got any non-abrasive auto/car polish? Guitars are finished with the same finishes used on cars. Even the colors (well except for see through blonde and sunburst) come from cars. A dab of Nu-Finish for example on an old t-shirt should work just Jim Dandy and won't hurt a thing.

Fender's premium polish line is made by an automotive finish care company. I'd be way more comfortable using the clear liquid polishes than anything that leaves a film you have to buff off like Simonize or Kit wax as they are usually somewhat abrasive. If it is a paste, I wouldn't use it. But the clear liquid polishes would be fine.

The Armor-All by the way is a big no-no.

Do not neglect your fretboard. When you can afford it get some fretboard conditioner of some sort. I like pure lemon oil for rosewood. A treatment at string changes is good. Don't overdo it. Put it on, let it soak in for say 6 to 12 hours and then thoroughly wipe off the excess. Don't get it on the strings. Oily strings will become dead strings.

Im not sure, my brother has alot of car care products in the garage, i think alot of it is by mothers or moms or what ever that brand is. He might have some polish in there.

Ill check back with what it is before i use it.

And so its normal that some things wont rub off with the soft clothe they gave me?

See the other day my cat was walking on my desk and tipped over a glass of milk. Luckily it was empty but a little bit off milk splashed onto the body and little in the bridge. It was only small spots, and i got them off right away. But some of the spots are still there and you can see them when the light is on them the right way. Should that damage anything? i wipe the entire guitar off every time i use it.

Could i dampen a old shirt or piece of the soft clother they gave me, and rub it off? Im just afraid it might hurt the finish.

I would kill the cat if I were you. Your bass is RUINED. LOL. Just kidding cat fans!

OK you are obviously kidding and so am I now.

No need crying over spilt milk my friend! Just chalk it up to experience and muddle on....or don't let the light hit it in just the right way. It is an instrument....not a living being. It is gonna collect your life experiences as it travels with you through life! That is why Jaco took his bass (sans case of any sort) with him wherever he went. Live life and soak it all up. It is all good and your bass will be the better for it! Good kitty! Spill more milk!

I think it is a good thing you don't have a dog that needs to piss. BUT...ohhhh...not on my bass! Oh well, rub it off with some old sox and press on. It is all good.

you should try checking the contents of the cleaner first before applying them.. like silicon is a big no no for the wood..

armor all aren't those for tires? i don't think i'd use those..

as for the milk? I'd let my cat lick those... (nah!) just kidding..

if it left spots or something it should be ok i guess..its not that bad... as if it doesn't affect playability

like a friend of mine actually had a bass that swam through the flood, working but the neck warped..
