Welcome.........Is the neck bowed? Or the action real high? I wouldn't mess around with the corecting the neck, but I would try to lower the action and have a tech re-adjust the neck. Good luck man

Welcome to the Forum.

If it has been in storage the first thing I would do is inspect it very carefully looking closely at the neck to see if it warped. Next I would a complete setup on it.

Welcome to the forum!

How was it stored? If it was stored in a non-temperature controlled environment and got extremely cold, the strings would have contracted putting more tension on the neck and may have caused it to bow. Don't panic, this is usually correctable.

Are you tuning it to correct standard pitch? Lower tunings will cause the strings to have a larger arc of vibration. Is the cover bent at all?

The best advise has already been given, which is take it to a tech and get it set up. Maybe that would be a good time for new strings too since the setup will probably cost the same with or without new strings.

If you want to try to set it up yourself click the link in my forum signature below and then click on the red link that says: "DO IT YOURSELF SETUP & MAINTENANCE." But a caution that neck adjustments are tricky and risky for a do-it-yourselfer. Only do one quarter turn at a time, check the result and wait to do another quarter turn the next day. The best advice on neck adjustment showing a good technique is at the link for the BASS SETUP INSTRUCTION MANUAL by Gary Willis. However, it is always best to get a tech to do any major adjustments and it sounds like your bass need some major adjustments and not just some minor tweaking. Good luck!

Hi again, the bass was just purchased and the covers were in storage.
I'm waiting for LaBella's flat wound strings before I get to do a complete setup which I'm capable of.
By the way the covers were from another bass that I purchased many years ago from ebay and the stings were hitting that one too. That bass had a allparts Jazz neck with block inlays. I compared necks and the allparts is about 1/4inch thicker at the heel. The bottom edge of the binding should be even with the pickguard as is the case with the new MIM bass and a 30+ year old Carlo Robeli MIJ jazz copy that had covers on with no problem. I purchase that one about 20+ years ago.
I never got to deepen the neck pocket.
