Hi all,
I've just read a review of the New American Standard Jazz and they were quite impressed with the new bridge, as the bridges are usually replaced. In fact the entire Bass got a great review. Anywho, does anyone have one of these new ones? Is the bridge that much better? I,ve been wanting to put a BadAss II on a '97 mim J Bass, but now am a little interested in this new Fender bridge. Does anyone know what it is? Or can anyone give me a comparison between these two bridges.
Thanks have a great day all.

The bridge is a hi mass bridge, really nice thick base, you can see the difference on the bend. I'm not sure if it's brass saddles tho...probably can ck on the product section. Good luck with the BadAss bridge, I couldn't find it anywhere, I ended up with a Gotoh 201 for my '99, the other basses I have II and III on it. I do like it better, even tho my ears can't really tell the difference, they do look nicer than the 'bent' steel originals ;)

Or you can google image it if can't find it on here. G'luck.

Thanks PowerJazzBass!
I didn't realize the BadAss bridges were hard to come by. I will certainly ck out the product section for the hi mass bridge. It's just that i've had the BadAss idea in my head for a while, but if I can't find any maybe i'll go with the hi mass. Is the Gotoh 201 just as good as the BadAss?........Now i've got 3 to choose from....great.
thanks again man

Yeah, the Gotoh I can get the action a smidge lower...I think it's easier to get the intonation with the Gotoh...in all honesty tho, I like the look of the BadAss better...so shallow I am :D

Shallow? I know exactly what you mean. I spent some time today researching these two bridges and from what i've read about them it seems as if they are both great bridges and better than what I have. The Gotoh is quite a bit cheaper (so I should buy that one), yet I like the looks of the BA II. Thats my Shallowness. I guess I could always get the Gotoh and cover it with the Fender ashtray. :P

I don't know for sure but suspect the BadAss bridge shortage is due to one of three things.

1. They are out of business. This seems highly unlikely as they sold a ton of BA II's to Fender over the past few years for use on artist basses. That alone should have kept them busy. So I don't really see how that could have happened.

2. They are retooling for new products. The Leo Quan website was last updated in July at which time they were promising new products for October or November 2009.

3. They are moving production out of the states.

I sent an email to them months ago trying to get a part. It didn't bounce but I've yet to get a reply.

I heard rumor that it had something to do with the owner's illness, but I've also heard a ton of rumors flying around.

I agree. I really don't think bridges make any difference in tone but the best of them add just a tad more sustain and they are more stable. The return on investment just isn't there considering most of them are really expensive. As Rocketbass pointed out the upgrade stock USA Deluxe bridge now out is just fine but I don't think there was anything wrong with the old one other than the limited saddle travel for intonation as that is the smallest bass bridge I think Fender ever made.

Some people simply can't leave well enough alone and feel like they have to fix something that isn't broken.

If you have a Fender USA Deluxe bridge, one thing to keep in mind about all these aftermarket bridges is that most of these aftermarket ones only have one string slot in the center of each saddle. The Fender USA Deluxe bridges have three string slots. So if you have a bass with a stock USA Deluxe bridge that sets up perfectly with one or more strings in a slot other than the middle slot your string spacing is going to be different with the aftermarket bridge.

I e-mailed the Leo Quan Company. They told me the best way to order parts is to go to www.allparts.com They just sent a large order to them recently. Apparently they are still in business.

I e-mailed them on last Saturday from the L.Q. web sight. Perhaps it is a standard generated responce.

Both the Fender High Mass, and the Badass ll bridges are good. They really do what they are intended to do. The only gigs against the L.Q. as replacement bridge on an American Standard, you do loose the ability to run your strings through the body.

Then the BadAss III is what you're going to have to get, not the BadAss II.

So will a new Fender HMV fit perfectly onto a '97 mim j?
