Hi everyone
I have been using Yamaha basses for years but I always love the sound of fender jazz bass.
I would like to replace my yamaha trb 5string with a fender.
the problem is that i am used to 24frets and I'd like a passive-active switch too.
Plus it must be 5 strings.
I've heard about a fender jazz bass deluxe V24.
do you know about it?what do you think??
I need a good bass.One for working.
It should have a good range of tones as i play different styles(jazz,$@!&,blues rock etc etc...).
I never seen that bass in a music store...

Hey! The Marcus Miller Jazz Bass has the features that you may wish a bass to have, but it is a little more expensive though.

Marcus Miller bass is a great bass. But too expensive and there are only 20frets.
I went to the shop and i tried the AMERICAN DELUXE JAZZ BASS ASH(5strings).
Well...what a bass!
Ok It's only 22 frets and there is not any passive -active switch.
But in this case I don't care.
I could get a switch by myself.I think it's possible do it...
About the fender jazz 24V.that's not the best bass.I mean It's nothing compared to the american deluxe I have seen.
Opinions??

well its up to you dude on what to buy.. what you feel and what sounds best.. I'm not really a fan of active jazz basses.. I'd go for Stingrays or something.. and for the comparison.. deluxe are much more expensive than the 24's so like there's a lot of difference and considering the wood of the deluxe plus the samarium cobalt noiseless pickups they have..

I own a 24 fret Fender Jazz don't use it much since I really like 4 string basses
My worship leaders love the low B and yes the 24 fets are useful when playing certain songs. Good luck in finding one as they are discontinued.

Just a thought... Maybe try a MIM 5 & see if you like the feel, and if so, swap out the electronics for an active system.

Personally I find the 24 fret thing to be a bit much, but that's my taste, not yours. I just bought my first 5 today (cheap used OLP MM3). I feel most comfortable with 4 strings, & I just don't play all that high up. The highest I ever play normally is the 19th (Free - All Right Now).

The jazz bass 24 was discontinued this year, so it might be difficult finding them (the certainly not impossible). They had seymour duncan pickups, and I think they were quarter pounders. Those pickups have a natural scooped midrange, which is not really the traditional jazz bass tone.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can always swap out a preamp, add an active/passive switch, or add a preamp to a passive instrument. If the jazz 24 doesn't do it for you, the American Deluxe is definitely a good option. The samarium cobalt pickups are very good pickups, and it has 22 frets.

Generally I am not a fan of fender's stock preamps (they use the same for all of their non-artist basses, MIM and MIA). They tend to color the sound more than I'd like a preamp to. If you buy either bass and happen to like the way it colors the sound, than that is fine. However I usually recommend replacing it with an Aguilar or Auderey preamp. I believe the aguilar has an active/passive switch.

I'm not sure if you can add an active/passive switch to a fender preamp, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't.

I like the 24 a lot. Here's a new one you can get from 'the perfect bass'. What you see is what you get, which is why there is a serial # on it on the site.

It's new. Good luck.
