I usually prefer the tone of Fender basses with their original, lighter bridges. A friend of mine had a Bad@ss on his '66 Jazz for along time, and was amazed at how great he bass sounded when he went back to the original bridge.

My mate has one on his hand made jazz bass a-like and it is a lovely bridge, really sturdy and sustains for ever and ever.

I was gonna put one on my J bass but to be honest I'm pretty happy with the stock fender one! :)

I like how mine sounded with the BadAss III. Get it if you like the sustain. I'm contemplating II for my Squier.

Must say, I absolutely swear by Badass bridges. All 3 of my Jazzers have one (2 Badass 2's and a Badass 3 on my USA J bass)
They sound fab and are solid as a rock.
IMHO the only worthwhile upgrade on a J bass - Fender got it pretty much right first time.

from what I have learned, the only reason you might want to change your bridge is if you cannot maintain your intonation and as I read above, Fender got it correct the first time so...if its a cosmetic thing, then go for it. Personally I am putting a bad $@! 2 on my rehearsal bass çause it's a cheapy that I'm constantly tuning hahaha...good luck 8)

i installed the bridge. it sounds awesome, if you are wanting to install the bad@$$, then i would totally recommend it. my bas sounds bass-ier, and it holds its intonation. which is awesome.so. i also like the look way better. i think my bass is all around better from just the bridge being replaced. though i had a crappy, old, 10 year, rusted bridge, that was missing some screws, it was a really big upgrade.

I've never heard any difference between the stock Fender bridge and a Badass bridge. I've had Fender with one or the other installed at one time. The one thing I do not like about the Badass, I cannot adjust the action as low as I can with the stock Fender bridge.

And as far as sustain.....it is a bass. I'm not sittin' there holding notes like a guitar player does. So sustain is not an issue with me. Two of my jazz basses have through the body stringing anyway....and with the stock bridge, work great. But I do like how the Baddass bridge look!

I've had 2 Badass bridges and I liked them but if you play hard like I do the saddles especially the A string developed burrs that lead to breaking strings at inconvenient times. The alloy they use is a bit soft. I did try a Gotoh 201 and that was cool but I'm at the point of going to a Fender American Deluxe for my MIM Classic Jazz. I've already put one on my Aerodyne and it's a big improvement.

I put one on my MIM Jazz because the stock bridge was pretty well worn (the bass is 11 years old). I love it, it sustains, intonation is great, and it maintains that Fender tone. The only downside I chose to install it myself, so I had to file grooves into the saddles on my own.

I bought a badass III to fit on my american precision deluxe but decided to check the sustain with the stock bridge by hitting an open E - it rang out for well over 30 seconds. How often are you going to need a longer note than that? - anyway the badass is still in the packet. :?

The new Fender American Standard has upgraded their bridge in the direction of the 'Badass,' while retaining the classic look.

Though, if enjoy the sound & function of the bass you are presently using, particularly with a vintage style bass, there probably is not a reason to change (unless you just want to experiment).
