Just added this to my collection. However, the bass has some serious head dive issues. I know this is something that has been a factor on older fender basses.
The solutions I can think of are:
1. change the machine heads - does this help? recommendations welcome
2. I have heard that fender is now manufacturing the same machine heads with a 30% reduction in weight. has anyone heard this?

Lastly, no manual when bass was purchased - if anyone can explain how the electronics work it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I own a Jazz Bass Plus and I would recomment that you deal with the neck dive by getting a wider strap

The electronics are modeled after the Kubicki bass.
The rotaty switch gives you two active moces a passive mode and off.

The controld give you bass, treble pan and volume. you should be able to figure out which is which.
