Welcome to the Forums!!

We can tell you, or you can ck it out yourself on the product page then click on the specs of each. The American Standard obviously is MIA, where the Standard Jazz is MIM. Price difference is huge, but you're also getting 2 dif't basses. Good luck, try 'em all...again, welcome to the forums.

Whether or not you are a fan of Geddy Lee i would strongly recommend that you get your hands on one to try it out.

They are made in Japan (excellent, excellent build quality - the fretwork is fab); have possibly the thinnest neck going across the Fender Jazz range, certainly thinner than my other Jazz, the 1970's MIM Classic, which is supposed to have a thin neck itself (if thin necks are your thing - not everybody's preference but they do enable very quick playing); American built pickups; a Baddass Bridge (in place of the stock Fender bridge); maple fingerboard (perceived to offer a brighter tone than rosewood - again, not everyone's preference).

Cost wise they are more than the MIM range and less than the MIA range (certainly in the UK).

Oh, and they look fab too, coming in a wide range of colours... two...

Disclaimer: I have a Geddy Lee Jazz and so am obviously biased!

When you start to mention other than std Made in USA. If you can get your hands on a eightys Korea Jazz bass, grab it and HOLD IT DAMN TIGHT!
A friend of mine has a '82 Korea Jazz Bass. The slimmest and smothest neck to play, and a real smooth Vintage Tone. I Wish only he would sell it to me!

I have a Geddy Lee too and absolutely love it! Even though it's my pride and joy I have let a few people (inc my bass tutor) have a go and universally they have said that it's a superb bass.

I'm currently weighing up a Am Std or a Std Fretless jazz to add it. At the moment the Am Std is the front runner!

Have fun

Mark

My luthier was joking yesterday, he said the difference between Mexican Fender and USA Fender is about 200 miles.

Whether you get the USA or MIM model - play it lots, and lots!
