Hi there guys, new on the Fender Forum. I posted this same thread in the Custom Shop 'Mike Eldred' forum, but maybe it's better here!?

I'm considering a CS Jazz Bass and am just doing some research into the spec.

I have a 2003 US Standard Jazz and am in love with how the bass sounds, what can I expect from the CS Vintage Jazz Bass Pickups compared to the US standards?

Oh and how do both the US standards & CS Vintage pickups compare to the CS 60's Jazz pickups (in the accessories section of the fender website), or are they actually the same as stock CS 'vintage' ones?

Many thanks!
Si

Vintage pickups tend to have more high mids and less low mids than modern pickups. This translates to less beefyness in the sound, but more growl. The vintage pickups will also have slightly less harshness in the high end.

The CS 60's are overwound vintage style, and they are a really good middle ground between the vintage and modern jazz tones. It essentially has the high mids of the vintage pickups and the low mids of the modern pickups, with a slightly smoother high end. I use these in my 2008 MIA jazz, and I'm in love with them.

modern pickups tend to go deeper and have more grunt in them... more like having and extended bottom..

while cs jazz pickups tend to have more midrange growl in high n low mids and slightly cut highs.. they aren't as twangy as the stocked pickups
