Hello Low Enders,

I purchased a new American Fender Standard Jazz in May. Love the bass except.....the one inch long #6 chrome screw that holds the front strap post in place keeps coming loose. I am afraid this will loosen more over time. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how did you fix it?

:?

You are right. They will eventually BOOGER out. What I do that seems to work for me is to:

1. Put a very small amount of wood glue or Gorilla glue on the tip of a round toothpick.

2. Insert toothpick ALL THE WAY into the screw hole as far as it will go. Be careful not to get any glue on the finish. If you do, wipe it off immediately.

3. BREAK OFF THE TOOTHPICK as flush as possible to the top of the hole. If just a little toothpick is still poking out it doesn't matter.

4. Next day after glue is dry, reinstall the strap button and screw. The screw head will compress down any of the toothpick still peeping out of the hole.

I've done this lots of times. Sure beats drilling a second hole, which incidentally I've seen on several older basses! Once I give it the toothpick treatment I rarely ever have to tighten it up again.

I had the same problem with my new Jazz 5. I realized the Schaller straplocks I was useing was the culprit. So I filled the screw holes with timber and then replaced the Schaller straplocks with the new design Ernie Ball, why? Simple the Ernie Ball spin freely a full 360 degrees. Been playing my bass almost 3 hours everyday for the past 3 months (I work on a Cruise Ship) with no sign of the problem.
