Hi I am posting this on behalf of my cousin. He just recently got a "fender jazz" bass for i dont know how much. It looks to be a lake placid blue. it has a microtilt neck cover, but no microtilt. THERE IS NO SERIAL NUMBER ON THE HEADSTOCK OR NECK COVER. My cousin said that it is on the end of the neck. I have a hard time beleiving that this is a genuine fender. Please help. The bass is about 3-4 years old.

You really need to give more of description of the bass or post some pictures if anyone on this board is going to be able to help you.
There are a lot of fakes circulating in Fender bass land, so any help you can give us will allow us to help you.

Jazz basses had microtilt necks in the late 70's to early eighties. My 1983 Jazz bass has one on a 4 bolt neck. The 70's versions had it on a 3 bolt neck. Necks can and are swapped between Fender basses all of the time, so it is almost impossible to tell you what your cousin has without some kind of picture.
