This looks like a MIJ 62 reissue. A serial number would really help to identify it though.

Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant for Fender Japan, Japan in the Year(s): 1993 - 1994.

Source of info: http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

Agree that is is the reissue because of the third strap-lock on the back of the headstock. The control plate doesn't look quite right to me for some reason though.

Thanks a lot for information.
By the way, "reissue" - what does it mean? Is it good or not?

Fender REISSUE instruments are an attempt to reproduce the look, feel and sound of a particularly legendary instrument. They are not identical to the original as they use new tooling to make the replicas, but they are a tribute to the original instrument with certain cosmetic or functional design elements of the original incorporated.

Fender RI basses and Fender Japanese basses are usually good bets. And your '62 Reissue is a nice bass.

Lots of people upgrade the electronics on the Japanese basses. If the Japanese instruments have a tonal weakness when compared to the USA instruments it is the electronics. A pretty standard upgrade on this bass is to install a new set of Fender Vintage pickups, CTS pots and better tone capacitors. You can sometimes find the vintage capacitors just like the ones used on the original too. I prefer to use Sprague Vitamin-Q type paper-in-oil capacitors as I think they sound better than either the original ceramic discs or the poly caps like the Sprague Poly Orange Drops which many people use and seem to like a lot. My second choice would be the Sprague MYLAR Orange Drops which are way harder to find than the Poly ones but cost about the same. The Mylar caps sound almost as good as the more expensive paper in oil caps and are much smoother than the poly caps.
