Hi guys, I'm looking for some classic jazz sound..
I didn't include modern stuff like Barts, and Custom 60's and DiMarzios coz they do have modern tones..

I've never used the antiquities, but I am very familiar with the two fender models.

In short, the original bass pickups are what you want to go with. The core of the 60's growl comes from the mid-mid and hi-mid presence. The original bass pickups have TONS of hi-mids, far more than modern pickups.

The noiseless pickups have a slight scoop in the midrange, and in my opinion lose some of the growl.

I would have to disagree about the Custom 60's. They have the 60's hi-mid growl with the addition of the modern lo-mid grind. Not 'strictly' vintage, but accurate to some well known artists, including Jaco and Geddy Lee (both of whom had slightly overwound pickups).

I heard Antiquities II have the same wound as Jaco's and as they say replacement for a 60's jazz (that's why I added it in the poll)? But as what I've heard it has tons of bottom and slightly tamer highs more related to custom 60's..

Anyways I was looking for that Fender 1961 Jazz sound that Flea uses.. should I go for Fender Vintage?

and the Fender Noiseless, I've heard they lack that mid range punch and has the p-bass twist to it but well good for slapping because of the scooped mids right?

First of all, Jaco's pickups were overwound, and would be similar to the custom 60's and I guess the Antiquity II's. Remember, 'bottom end' and low end is fairly easy to notch out if it seems too intense. Overwound pickups have more low end, but they also have more midrange, which is why some find the desirable. I find in general low end and high end is easy to adjust, as is 'brightness' and 'darkness.'

In my opinion the hardest part to change is the midrange. It's easy to scoop mids, but adding mids and shaping mids is a different story. For example, I have a MIA standard J bass, which has a ton of low mids, but doesn't have as much hi mid growl as vintage basses. I've tried for a long time to add those hi mids, but it never quite does it.

I caution you to get pickups with scooped mids just for slap. As I said, its easy to scoop mids, its harder to add mids into a bass that doesn't naturally have them.

Just my 2 cents.

I see, but does Custom 60's fit in the MIM's cavity? some reviews find it a bit bigger so they had to chip off some lacquer and pickguard..

So far Fender Vintage is my first choice because they are the "it" vintage sound to me.. But I learned to like more low end especially on the Antiquity 2 and CS 60,

as far as I've heard the Noiseless has less growl, so I'd better scratch that one..

so its Vintage, Antiquity 2 or CS 60..
