All I'm saying is I think it would be foolish to get rid of a perfectly good bass that you have an attachment to. Electronics can always be changed, and a good technician should be able to fix up the neck. I never thought I'd touch my first bass after I got my MIA bass, but a year later I made some modifications to it and now I use it again. You just never know.

The only bass w/o my mods I missed after selling is the Stu Hamm I...it was just a nice playing bass, short scale and all. The ones I've modded, I don't sell, since it's not worth anything to anyone but myself :)

That's some very good advice. It might cost me a little bit, but i think i want to upgrade it with Duncan Quater Pounders and a Badass 2 Bridge, straplocks, and maybe a new pickguard. But if i go for the Duncans, i'll have to redo the whole wiring scheme with new pots and knobs because i'd be switching from actice to passive... this sounds fun :)

Get a Duncan Hot Rails and wire it to the middle position. Now isntead of screwing it to the pickguard in the middle, put it in the bridge slot and the bridge pickup in the middle.

Wait, does your current bass have an active preamp or active pickups? Because you only have to change if it has active pickups. Otherwise you just plug right into the preamp, unless you want to switch to passive.

Yup, the cowpoke came stock with an actice P/J pickup set and preamp, and I want to switch over to passive simply because active is too much maintenance for me.

Can't blame you. I prefer passive pickups and passive electronics. And if you really miss having an active preamp, you can always get external stomp boxes that are just an external preamp.

That's exactly what I'm thinking!

Overall, the Fender Jazz Bass. Although a Fender Precision Bass has a classic voice that needs to be heard, hence my desire for the new P-Bass MIA V.

There is something about how phat a G (string) sounds on a P :!:

Again, back to the need for P along with the Jazz.

although aerodyne P/J wouldn't sound like a natural P or J.. well even with soloed i think they're basswood they'd sound slightly different... and as for me...

a P and a J.. well I'll have one for each.. who knows what you might need.. although there are some who are comfortable with just one..

I don't own an Aerodyne but did want to make a comment about using basswood on instruments. Basswood is a soft wood and dents much easier than other woods used for basses. I had a Dean bass that I caught in a car door. The door didn't hit it that hard but still left an impression right through the Fender gig bag. On the bright side, basswood is light. My Dean was a 6-string and was much lighter than my Fender 5-string, or even a MM Stingray 4 that I owned.

I'm not sure about it's tone-enhancing qualities of basswood but Ernie Ball uses it for their Bongo basses because they felt it worked best, and Bongoes (Bongos?) aren't cheap.
