You could do a lot worse than a Marcus Miller Jazz - just don't use the EQ.
I use mine in passive mode all the time and it sounds great. 8)

I heard that you can order one any fender instruments in natural, just specify to a shop/Fender for just a clear coat, no paint finish and I think they will do it.

I know I answered the question concerning a Jazz bass being made with a Maple/fretboard/maple neck, and yes I do know that Fender does have the signature Marcus Miller Bass and the "75 reissue, however how hard would it be to produce a 70's type 5 string bass like that WITHOUT it having someones name on it ! and WITHOUT going thru the custom shop !
No disrespect to Marcus, but you have other luthiers out there that are doing ( or @ least trying to  ) so why isn't a bass that you can get

Because there quite simply isn't a big enough demand?

I seriously doubt that, because I know a geat deal of players who actually bought the Marcus Miller V not because it's just a good bass, but it's only 70's ( somewhat ) type 5 string bass that you can ( currently ) get from Fender that's Maple on Maple with block enlay, and being that there always seems to be a wainting list for this bass, then this would seem to me that this bass has a very high demand whether it has Marcus's name ( which it does ) on it or not, besides Marcus's signature bass would sell even if it came in "Blue
