Wonder what it costs to replace the plastic fingerboard that is now standard on Squire Jazz Basses with a real one.

Saving money? At what expense????

Sounds like you're trolling to me. And it's Squier; not Squire.

I'm pretty sure you can still get a maple fingerboard on Squier Jazz Basses.

And if by "plastic fingerboard," you mean ebonol. Ebonol is technically known as "XXX Paper Phenolic", and is a paper-based high pressure laminate made from layers of black paper and phenolic resin. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebonol on this topic.

Believe it or not, some people actually prefer ebonol.
